Concerning Holy Days in the United States: In addition to Sunday, the days to be observed as holy days of obligation in the Latin Rite of the dioceses of the United States include the following solemnities: Mary, Mother of God (Jan 1); the Ascension; the Assumption of Mary (Aug 15); All Saints (Nov 1); the Immaculate Conception (Dec 8); and Christmas (Dec 25). Whenever November 1, the solemnity of All Saints, falls on a Saturday, the obligation to attend Mass is lifted.

ADULT EDUCATION IS RETURNING
On Wednesday, November 5, and Saturday, November 8, we will offer an Adult Education class on Misconceptions; learn about myths and misconceptions about our Catholic faith: indulgences, praying to saints, good works will save us, and more. Wednesday class times are 5:45 p.m. and 7:20 p.m.; Saturday class (Spanish only) is offered at 6:00 p.m. Paul Zock will be presenter in English and Mario Reyes will present in Spanish. Please join us.

BISHOPS ASK CATHOLICS TO PRAY ELECTION NOVENA
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) invites U.S. Catholics to pray before the November election a novena for life, justice, and peace called Novena for Faithful Citizenship. It is a podcast and available for download.
Joan Rosenhauer, Associate Director for the USCCB’s Department of Justice, Peace and Human Development, said that the special novena is part of “the bishops’ campaign to help Catholics develop well-formed consciences for addressing political and social questions.” The bishops issued their statement on forming consciences for faithful citizenship in November 2007.
Helen Osman, USCCB Secretary of Communications, expressed hope that the novena could help “Catholics enter into prayerful reflection as they prepare to vote.” Seventy-one percent of all visitors to the USCCB’s web site download the free podcasts of the daily NAB readings. These same visitors are encouraged to use the novena podcast for prayer. Osman said that the USCCB wants to support Catholics as they weigh pre-election issues and that “providing a prayer resource on the Web can help us focus on our common values and identity as Catholics.” The novena emphasizes the dignity of life, justice, and peace. The Novena for Faithful Citizenship runs for nine days and can be used consecutively, one day each week, for nine days prior to the election, or “in any way that works best for a community or individual,” said Rosenhauer. The novena will be available for download until the election and it can be downloaded online at www.faithfulcitizenship.org/resources/podcasts. La Conferencia de Obispos Católicos de los Estados Unidos (USCCB) invita a todos los Ciudadanos Católicos para orar antes de las elecciones de Noviembre, una novena por la vida, la justicia y la paz, llamada Novena para la Ciudadanía Fiel. Está disponible para bajarla del internet. Joan Rosenhauer, Director Asociado para el Departamento de la Justicia, la Paz y el Desarrollo Humano, dijo que la novena especial forma parte de "la campaña de los obispos para ayudar a los Católicos a desarrollar conciencias bien formadas para dirigir las preguntas políticas y sociales". Los obispos publicaron su declaración para formar conciencias para la ciudadanía fiel en Noviembre del 2007.
